Photo catchup

A new carseat

We finally moved Morgan up to a forward facing carseat.

Experts recommend you keep kids rear-facing as long as possible, with a minimum of 1 year and 20 lbs (which is codified in VA state law). We made it to 16 mos.

Though we had pretty much the highest capacity infant bucket in existence, Morgan was definitely getting too tall for it. She LOVES forward facing and being able to see.

Photos of her first trip in the bucket, last time in the bucket, and loving the new seat.

A real haircut

Despite there being a previous photo of me tentatively poking at her hair with a scissors, Morgan’s mullet had gotten seriously out of control. Not surprisingly, we never took a photo of the back of her head, but you can kind of see it in the first side photo below.

So, I went at it for real this time, taking off half an inch here and an inch there, and am pretty proud of the result. Now I just need to work in some layers…

Morgan asking to sit in my lap

I was sitting at the table today, making a list of things I needed to do. Morgan came up and asked to get up into my lap. And she then sat there happily, drawing on some paper with me. That’s never happened before.  She will crawl into our laps to read a story or rock back and forth (a la Row Row Row Your Boat), but never up into a chair to hang out like that.

15 Month Well Visit

We went to the doctor this morning for Morgan’s 15 month check-up.  (We were a little behind schedule, 15 months was actually Sept 27.)

  • Weight: 21 lbs (20th percentile)
  • Height: 32.5 inches (95th percentile)
  • Head: 19.25 inches (off the charts)

She got her seasonal flu shot and a vaccination.  We ended up bringing her home from daycare a little early today with a bit of a fever, probably related to the vaccination.  Hope she feels better tomorrow.

The doctor asked us if she was walking, talking, climbing stairs (not walking up stairs, but climbing), putting things in containers, pointing to body parts, and understanding words that she wasn’t able to say yet.  The answer to all those questions is a solid yes.

We said she knew about half a dozen words (she regularly uses 8 ) and he seemed pretty impressed. We later read on the sheet he gave us that the normal range for her age is 2-6.  That got us to thinking what the words actually were.  Here’s what we came up with: bye-bye, uh-oh, up, down, ball, ow-ie, mine, and open.

Too cold for the park

We had to leave the park this morning because it was too cold. (Morgan refuses to keep a hat on for more than about 30 seconds.)

A sad day indeed.

End of festival season

Shirlington Oktoberfest marks the unofficial end of our summer festival season.

Also, Morgan tried peanut butter for the first time (though we’ve certainly never kept her clear of nuts, we’ve also never explicitly fed them to her). Fortunately, there’s no big, red balloon-faced photo to complete the pair.

Cox Farms Fall Festival

Morgan’s 2nd annual trip (see last year), she was able to do a lot more this time (like go down the slide by herself, which caused all the other parents to gasp).

She can open the doors in the apartment

They have handles (they aren’t doorknobs). Early in the weekend she figured out how to open them in the ‘push’ direction. By Sunday evening she could open them when pulling too.
