Wiping nose

A really fun part about this age is when random stuff like this happens for the first time.

Unprompted, and never having done it before, Morgan grabbed a kleenex from the box, wiped her nose, and threw it in the trash.

She’s practically off to Harvard.

New behaviors, another fair

1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th lunch

Morgan’s caregiver told us that she served Morgan lunch 5 times today.  She served Morgan the first time, served the rest of the kids, and then turned back to Morgan.  Her food was gone.  So she got seconds.  And then thirds, fourths, and fifths.  I get the impression Morgan would have kept eating forever, but they eventually quit feeding her.

Storytime & Hugs

Morgan will now crawl into your lap with a book to have you read to her.  She doesn’t always let you finish the book, but it is tons of fun.  And she will point to things in the book and talk (in her way) about them.

She definitely loves to find corners/walls and sit with her back to them while flipping though books.  It is interesting, because she isn’t great at judging exactly how to sit with her back flush against the wall, so it takes a bit of work on her part…scooting and turning and the like.

Finally, sometimes when you pick her up she’ll give you a big hug around the neck.  She does this every night before bed, as I’m standing up to put her in the crib.  Makes the heart melt.

Morgan can carry a basketball

Not exactly a traditional developmental milestone, but I was a little surprised when she picked up a basketball at the playground this morning and started walking around with it.

Bringing Home Games From Daycare

Morgan has definitely started bringing home some of the stuff they teach her at daycare.  For instance, during “If You’re Happy and You Know It” she’ll point to her cheek.  They do this at daycare during the “then your face will surely show it” part.

And she likes to hold hands and do some sort of dancing like thing, where we alternate pushing and pulling on one hand and then the other.  And then she will occasionally drop to a crouch.  I’m wondering if this has something to do with London Bridge is Falling Down, but I don’t really know.

She has definitely found her belly button.  She was pulling her shirt up and looking for it this morning while Jim was feeding her breakfast.

Not from daycare, but just general progress, she now tries to climb into her stroller on her own.  She can’t yet make it, but my assumption is this means she wants to go for a walk.

She sort of wiggled her way into a corner in the living room and sat there quite happily for at least 15 minutes flipping through books this morning.  I was able to even read a whole book from back to front to her.  She wasn’t paying attention the whole time, but she didn’t get up and run away or take the book from me either.

And she is definitely working hard on mimicking things we say and trying to learn words.

Photo update

A festival, a fair, some new shoes, a skinned knee, and a lot of walking…

Morgan seems to have found her belly button

As I was getting her undressed for her bath she noticed her belly button for the first time (or for the first time that I was able to notice).  She kept touching it repeatedly and looking down at it, both while getting ready for the bath and while in the bath.  By the end of the bath she seemed to have forgotten about it/ceased to care, but she thought it quite fascinating for awhile there.  We’ll see what she seems to think of it in the next day or two.

It may be time to pull out the belly button book…

Playtime

A new 8x speed, 20 minutes in the life of Morgan video.  Like the previous two, this one really highlights her new mobility.  I was able to just follow her around for 20 mins, didn’t have to stop to pull her away from anything.

We also switched to a new HD camera.  The resolution is way better on our tv, not sure how much translates to the smaller web video.  It does, however, result in a “widescreen” instead of more square video.

The wider videos overlap the text on the left.  I may try to fix that someday, but meanwhile if you click on the title of this post to view just this post, the problem will go away.
