12 Month Doctors Visit

We had our 12 month well-visit yesterday.  The doctor was pleased with her progress.  He asked if she was creeping on furniture, clapping, using the pincer grip/feeding herself, and saying dada/mama.  The answer to all of those questions is yes, though I’m still not entirely convinced she’s got dada/mama down perfectly as words.  But she’s definitely babbling consonant sounds and figuring out meaning.

Growth Stats

  • 18lb, 13 oz (15th percentile)
  • 30 5/8 inches (95th percentile)
  • head: 18 5/8 inches (98/99th percentile)

Trying to climb out of the tub

I was giving Morgan a bath last night and she apparently wanted out of the tub.  So she swung one leg up, hooked it over the edge of the tub, and started to hoist herself out.  She would have made it too, had I not intervened.  I’m not sure how gracefully she would have landed, but she definitely would have made it out.

She has no idea whether she can climb over obstacles or not, so you can see her hoist a leg up like this to try to climb lots of things.  I saw her trying to climb out of the pen the other day at daycare (the barrier is way too high).

1 year old

Once we were pretty sure it was going to be the 3 of us for Morgan’s birthday, we tried to figure out if there was anything in particular SHE liked.  We remembered her affection for the fish at Como Park Zoo, so decided on a trip to the Baltimore National Aquarium in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

There was, of course, also cake/ice cream/soda/present waiting for her at home.

  • She loved the aquarium
  • She wouldn’t put the cake in her mouth
  • She had an extreme dislike for orange soda (video later!)
  • She loves her gift (tunnels)

A couple videos

More of Morgan’s new organization skills.  Loading and unloading her hamper, and trying to put a ring on the ring stack (didn’t succeed in this video, though sometimes does).

Father’s Day

For our first Father’s Day –

  • Sunday Brunch at Sports Pub (free for me!)
  • Some playing in the courtyard
  • Dinner at George’s

One nap a day – not so much

Apparently they turned their back on Morgan (in her stroller) for mere moments when they took the kids out to play in the courtyard this morning and she fell asleep.   They took pity on her and let her sleep.  So Morgan managed to sneak in a 30 minute nap this morning, despite the fact that this was supposed to be the first day of one-nap-a-day.

She’s wily I tell you.

Stacking

Here’s some decent, if a bit dark, video of Morgan’s previously discussed new interest and ability to stacking things.

Standing

It was sure to happen with Molly leaving town for 4 days… major new development…

Morgan can stand without support

As soon as she tries to move, she messes up her balance, but as long as she’s willing to stand still she can stand.

Miscellaneous development stuff

Oh, and:

1. Morgan has a molar coming in (bottom, her right).  Three of the four points are broken through.

2. She started to stack blocks for the first time today

3. Molly is traveling for work so I’m alone with Morgan for the first time through Thursday!  I was in charge of picking her up and doing everything up through bedtime when Molly was teaching, so the only completely new things will be: 1) trying to get myself ready in the morning without someone else to watch her for 20 minutes, 2) giving her a bath.

Pushing stroller video

She began walking much more upright lately, though still needs to hold onto something with both hands to either stand or walk.
