This morning Morgan was spending a lot more time on her hands and knees, trying to figure out how to crawl, than she has in the past. And, for the first time, she showed interest in figuring out how to move from her belly to a sitting position. She is going to be taking off in all directions in no time!

The puffs challenge her, as the tends to scoop them up in her fist but then can’t transfer them from the clenched fist to her mouth. When she succeeds, she does use her teeth to chew them.

So, Morgan can and will scoot long distances. Her favorite goals seems to be Jim’s shoes (she likes to chew the laces and chew on the bottom) and her stroller wheels. Gross.
Her scooting skills really do improve day-by-day. Yesterday morning she was reasonably stymied by my leg. Yesterday evening she managed to hoist herself right over my leg and on to whatever it was she was after.
We started her on Puffs this weekend. She gets no nutritional value from them, but she gets to practice maneuvering food into her mouth and chewing on solids. (For those who don’t know, Puffs are roughly Cheerio sized, but disintegrate much easier.)
She is now trying to conquer pulling herself up to standing.

Morgan seems to be adding additional teeth to her arsenal. She has cut an additional tooth on the bottom, right next to the middle two, and is getting ready to cut an additional two teeth on the top (again, right next to the middle two).

With her new army-crawling ability, playtime has changed a bit.
Here’s about 3 mins of video of me watching her for about 30 minutes this morning (sped up 12:1).
Things to notice: Her looking up at the camera (she recognizes cameras), her getting upset when I leave the room, me trying to get her to play with something other than my feet.
Note — higher resolution than usual, so bigger file and more taxing to your computer; let us know if you have any troubles viewing

After doing it for the first time ever this morning, she does this pretty much at will now. She did multiple times this morning, at daycare (on carpet), and at home tonight. It was no problem coercing her into doing it for the camera.

She pushed a rolling toy out of her reach then scooted forward to get it. She then again pushed it quite a bit out of her reach (more than her body length) and scooted forward again to reach it.
Time to think about baby-proofing.

About a week ago Morgan started sleeping happily on her stomach. We still put her down on her back and I think she spends most of the night on her back or side, but she’ll definitely turn over onto her stomach and stay there, sleeping soundly.
She’ll also lay her head down on the floor occasionally when playing on her stomach. Presumably because she is tired or wants to rest her neck. When you are used to seeing her only on her back, it’s pretty cute.
